The Kalani High School Junior Varsity Outrigger Paddling program introduces students to one of Hawaiʻi’s most cherished water sports. Designed for those new to paddling, the program focuses on developing fundamental paddling techniques, teamwork, and ocean safety skills while teaching respect for Hawaiian culture and tradition.
Through practices held in the open waters of Maunalua Bay and other local venues, student-athletes learn the essentials of steering, timing, and balance in a six-person canoe. The JV program emphasizes discipline, cooperation, and physical fitness, preparing paddlers for competition in the Oʻahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) league.
More than just a sport, outrigger paddling fosters camaraderie, perseverance, and an appreciation for Hawaiʻi’s ocean heritage—values that extend well beyond the canoe. GO FALCONS!
