Kalani Soft Tennis Team Heads to Hiroshima, Japan
Kalani High School’s Soft Tennis Team will be traveling to Hiroshima, Japan from November 18–24 to play a friendly match with our sister school, Koyo High School. Five girls and six boys, along with their coaches, will represent Kalani on this exciting international trip.
During their visit, the team will spend a day attending classes at Koyo High School before facing off in a friendly match against Koyo’s Soft Tennis Club. This marks a historic milestone — it will be the first time Kalani’s Soft Tennis Team has ever traveled off-island.
Unfortunately, this trip also comes at a bittersweet time. The Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) recently voted to discontinue Soft Tennis after this season, making this Kalani’s final year fielding a Soft Tennis team.
For those unfamiliar with the sport, Soft Tennis originated in Japan and closely resembles traditional tennis, but uses smaller rackets and a softer rubber ball. It was introduced to OIA schools as part of a cultural exchange program with Japan.
Support the Team: Donation Campaign
The team is currently conducting a donation campaign to help offset travel expenses. The total cost of the trip is nearly $20,000, and the team’s goal is to raise $7,000 to help reduce that burden.
If you’d like to support the players:
Scan the QR code below with your phone to donate through the Vertical Raise fundraising app, or
Write a check payable to Kalani High School (please note Soft Tennis in the memo line).
All donors will receive a donation acknowledgment letter for their contribution.
Please help spread the word — the campaign ends November 3. For more information, email athletics@kalanihs.org
